What is Fascial RestructuringTM?
Fascial Restructuring(TM) is an innovative approach to manual therapy and the treatment of athletic/traumatic injuries. Its goal is to reduce or eliminate chronic pain and stiffness by releasing adhesions and realigning bones, restoring the body to a more fluid, balanced and aligned state. It is all about restoring mobility. It is a direct, sequential, systematic approach to fascial therapy, relying on several foundational principles that facilitate the proper and effective release of adhesion at every level in the human body - myofascial (muscular), neural/dural (nerve), periosteal (bone), visceral/stromal (organ) and articular (joint). Adhesion will often form within and between any of these tissues from a number of causes, and in such cases, must be released in order to provide effective, lasting results. Fascial Restructuring(TM) is unquestionably a very deep form of fascial therapy, however, by design it is much less painful than most other therapies that target adhesion. Additionally, unlike most traditional adhesion release techniques, it is not limited to the release of myofascial or ligamentous adhesions. By targeting other structures in the body, the stage is set for healing to occur at a much deeper level...
What a Treatment Looks Like...
As a potential client, you should first know that treatments are always performed with clothes on. As such, it is important to dress appropriately - workout gear is best, as it will allow the therapist to both see and feel how your body is presenting in the most efficient, accurate way. When you come in for a treatment, you will first be taken through a thorough assessment that will help your therapist identify the target areas that need releasing. The goal is to identify the root cause of your pain, and to formulate a treatment plan from there. A detailed case history will be used to identify your presenting complaints and history of injuries/surgeries, then you will undergo a fascial postural analysis, a full orthopedic assessment including ROM and special tests, determination/elimination of short leg as a causative factor, and palpation of the various structures that are distorting your body's structure. This information is used to come up with a clear, concise plan tailored to your individual case.
Incredibly deep... yet painless...
During your treatments, your therapist will focus on identifying the areas in your body that are extremely adhered (tight), yet elicit no pain when pressed on. Identifying and locating these areas is the key to success... Most therapies attempt to release muscles that are tight and sore... What they fail to address is that these muscles are in fact in spasm, fighting a losing battle against a deeper root cause... If this root cause is not addressed, the tissues that have been released will soon return to a painful, tightened state. Think of how many times you have suffered through painful therapies, with no long-term benefit... With the exception of scar tissue release, you can expect your treatments to be largely pain-free. This is the cornerstone of Fascial Restructuring... Less Pain, More Gain...
Adam Climie, BA, RMT, DOMP, FRT
As founder of FRTM, Adam Climie, BA, RMT, DOMP brings over 24 years of clinical experience to the table, as well as a clear vision of the future of medically-oriented manual therapy. By viewing painful areas as a symptom of compensation rather than the actual cause of pain, he has developed a systematic, sequential approach to identifying and releasing adhered tissue from past traumatic injuries, repetitive strain injuries, overtraining, surgeries, infections, dietary intolerances and even poor posture. Any time you have suffered an inflammatory response, you are left with adhesion that can impact your body's ability to function optimally. By understanding and embracing this concept, a therapist trained in Fascial RestructuringTM is able to see the "BIG PICTURE" when it comes to the human body. Every adhesion that forms will contribute to some degree to the distortion of the body's normal alignment, as well as decrease the body's natural resiliency and flexibility - this is a cumulative process, both as a factor of time and number of injuries. In any case, our bodies then compensate for these distortions and misalignments - the result being what brings clients in for treatment - stiffness, loss of range of motion, painful muscles and joints, and a cycle of chronic reinjury, inflammation and adhesion, especially for those who lead an active lifestyle. The vast majority of clients have had one or more serious traumatic injuries in their past (even as a child) that can be directly linked with the pain and loss of function that they are experiencing today. The goal of FR(TM) is simple - to release adhesions (the cause) - at every level - lengthening the shortened areas of the body and restoring natural alignment, thereby eliminating the body's need to compensate. This approach means long-term to permanent change and saves clients money. As a manual osteopath and RMT, Adam's treatments are covered by extended health benefits.
As a former competitive motorcycle racer, Adam has a long history of serious traumatic injuries. In chronic pain by his mid twenties, he was inspired to begin his search for a solution. Exposure to many different existing therapies enabled him to discover the strengths and weaknesses of each, to apply those strengths to the self-treatment of his own dysfunctional body, and ultimately to come up with a series of techniques and concepts that would eventually become FR(TM). As living, walking proof of the effectiveness of his treatments, he has had tremendous success in inspiring and helping others regain their quality of life by eliminating or reducing pain. He also instructs a series of educational workshops to other therapists looking to provide their clients with long-term solutions to pain and dysfunction. If you are a client looking for more... an actual solution, or a therapist looking to further develop your healing practice, Fascial Restructuring(TM) is an option that should appeal to you.
